| SFAI: Since you have commented extensively about the effects of
globalization on art and culture in your work, could you talk about
it in relation to arts education? |

| OE: Well, it's interesting, because the two have opposite
dynamics. Culture is a slow and long process, while two of the distinctive
features of globalization are velocity and simultaneity. So the process
of conceiving of and making art--the very slowness of it--makes it
possible for artists to build their resistance, to keep in focus
that the means are always important. Not just the ends. And to understand
their responsibility in the context of a changing world. |
